Buka Port

Buka Port (above) is a part of the bustling, peaceful town of Buka on Buka Island in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. It became the capital of the province during the Bougainville civil war. The former, was Arawa which was destroyed in 1990 as tensions reached a critical level in a civil uprising.

Wharf Facilities
Crane
There are no wharf mounted, however, mobile are available in most ports capable of lifting up to 20 tonne containers. Shippers are advised though to check this before shipping heavier loads. Prior advice and approval must be sought from the relevant Port Authority..

Storage Area
Under cover storage 165sq.m. Open storage approx 1,000sq.m.

Waste Disposal
Waste disposal facility is available. Arrangement for disposal can also be done with the Buka Authority.

BULK HANDILING, RO-RO, TANKER, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), PASSENGER HANDLING, HEAVY LIFT, BUNKER PROVIDER, WATER PROVIDER, SLIP, SHIP REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE and STEVEDORE
PROVIDER.
The above mentioned facilities are not available. For further clarification and advise of the mentioned facilities must be sought from the Executive Manager (Operations) or the respective Port Manager prior to conducting any shipments.


PORT SECURITY (24 hrs)

Buka Port is open for business based on shore cargo
or shipping movement/activities. Currently there are two
in-port shipping agents that represent the interest of the
shipowners or shipping principles.
